2005 House Bill 4455 / 2006 Public Act 653

Require state minority health programs

Introduced in the House

March 3, 2005

Introduced by Rep. Michael Murphy (D-68)

To establish a “minority health disparities research and education act” in which the Department of Community Heath would be required to monitor minority health progress; establish a minority health policy; fund minority health programs, research, and other initiatives; staff a minority health hotline that establishes linkages with other health and social service hotlines and local coalitions; and develop and implement an aggressive recruitment and retention program to increase the number of minorities in the health and social services professions.

Referred to the Committee on Health Policy

Feb. 28, 2006

Reported without amendment

With the recommendation that the substitute (H-1) be adopted and that the bill then pass.

March 7, 2006

Substitute offered

To replace the previous version of the bill with one that revises details but does not change the substance of the bill as previously described.

The substitute passed by voice vote

Amendment offered by Rep. Chris Ward (R-66)

To tie-bar the bill to House Bill 4811, meaning this bill cannot become law unless that one does also. HB 4811 would repeal Michigan's ban on suing the maker of prescription drugs that have been approved by the FDA, unless there was fraud involved.
