2019 House Bill 4588

Exempt university columbarium from cemetery regulations

Introduced in the House

May 15, 2019

Introduced by Rep. Michael Webber (R-45)

To exempt “a columbarium that is owned and operated by a public land-grant university” from regulation under the state law that imposes endowment care trust fund and other requirements on cemeteries. Webster’s defines “columbarium” as “a structure of vaults lined with recesses for cinerary urns.” News reports indicate this is related to graduates of a state university wanting to leave their ashes on campus after they die.
