2018 House Bill 6061

Revise barber licensure

Introduced in the House

May 23, 2018

Introduced by Rep. Scott VanSingel (R-100)

To revise the conditions for getting a state barber license, which under current law requires a person take an 1,800 hour course of study at a licensed barber college (the bill would change this to 1,500 hours ). The bill would establish a new license category called a “barber apprentice,” which would also come with record keeping and disclosure requirements on a barber shop that employs an apprentice. Up to 500 hours of the apprenticeship could be used against the mandated barber college hours.
