2017 Senate Bill 353: Preempt local bans on employers asking about past wages

To expand a law that prohibits local governments from imposing mandatory job application information requirements or restrictions on employers. The bill would expand this to job interviews. Among other things the bill would ban local governments from prohibiting an employer from asking about a prospective employee's previous salary history during the job interview process.   Official Text and Analysis.

To tie-bar the bill to House Bill 4511, meaning this bill cannot become law unless that one does also. HB 4511 would mandate that employers provide to employees wage information on "similarly situated employees," meaning employees who are within the same job classification or whose duties are comparable in skill, effort, responsibility, working conditions, and training.
