2016 House Bill 5479

Expand do-not-resuscitate type orders

Introduced in the House

March 17, 2016

Introduced by Rep. Tom Cochran (D-67)

To establish a new type of expanded do-not-resuscitate order for seriously ill patients who are not expected to live long, along the lines of a national “POLST paradigm” approach. House Bills 5479 to 5481 would amend the procedures, definitions, restrictions and requirements in the current law authorizing DNR orders, and amend several related statutes to accommodate this. House Bill 5482 authorizes a state commission to create a readily identifiable “Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment” form containing ‘medical orders that direct specific types or levels of treatment to be provided in a setting outside of a hospital to which a patient or a patient representative may provide consent”.

Referred to the Committee on Judiciary

Nov. 29, 2016

Reported without amendment

Without amendment and with the recommendation that the bill pass.
