2016 House Bill 5249: Reduce restrictions on taxpayer funded electioneering
Introduced by Rep. Holly Hughes (R) on January 26, 2016
To repeal a prohibition on taxpayer-funded local governments and school district communications that reference a property tax hike or other local ballot measure during the 60 days before the election. The bill would permit taxpayer funded communications that, “under reasonable interpretation,” do not imply “a vote for or against a proposal” and which “provide a fair interpretation of the facts.” Officials in the state elections bureau would examine contested political flyers and communications to determine what is “reasonable".   Official Text and Analysis.
Referred to the House Elections Committee on January 26, 2016
