Amendment offered by Sen. Gretchen Whitmer D- on September 13, 2012
To authorize up to 10 years in prison for "inciting" or "procuring" another person to commit perjury, retroactive to the start of 2012. According to news reports the amendment is related to a political controversy involving a legislator's change of parties on the candidate filing deadline, and efforts to recruit a "paper" candidate on the other side.
The amendment failed 12 to 26 in the Senate on September 13, 2012.
