2011 House Bill 5239

Overhaul Detroit/Wayne Metro Airport board

Introduced in the House

Dec. 15, 2011

Introduced by Rep. Patrick Somerville (R-23)

To overhaul the Detroit/Wayne Metro Airport governance board, reducing from four to one the number of members appointed by the Wayne County executive, and increasing from one to four the number appointed by the county board. The existing airport board would be dissolved. The bill was introduced in the wake of a scandal involving the appointment by Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano of a former county political appointee to whom he also gave a questionable “severance pay” check.
