2010 Senate Bill 1079 / Public Act 272

Authorize MEGA tax breaks and subsidies for select "multimodal commerce" firms

Introduced in the Senate

Jan. 21, 2010

Introduced by Sen. Randy Richardville (R-17)

To authorize Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA) targeted tax breaks and subsidies for particular firms selected by state political appointees and are in a business related to "multimodal commerce," defined as “the movement of products, information, and services via air, roads, rail, or water.” This is about subsidizing businesses in an area between Willow Run and Detroit Metro airports in Wayne County (the "aerotropolis"). This is part of a package comprised of Senate Bills 1079 to 1084.

Referred to the Committee on Commerce and Tourism

Nov. 10, 2010

Reported without amendment

With the recommendation that the bill pass.

Amendment offered

To tie-bar the bill to House Bill 5349, meaning this bill cannot become law unless that one does also. HB 5349 would allow “renaissance zones” tax breaks for the same kinds of projects.
