2006 House Bill 5814

Require local government approval of state land acquisition

Introduced in the House

March 2, 2006

Introduced by Rep. Darwin Booher (R-102)

To require the Department of Natural Resources to notify a local government if it plans to acquire any new land in the jurisdiction that would be subject to payments in lieu of property taxes (PILT), and prohibit the acquisition if the local government disapproves it. The failure of the state to fully fund PILTs in recent years has been a sore point with local governments that have large tracts of state land in their jurisdiction.

Referred to the Committee on Local Government and Urban Policy

March 28, 2006

Reported without amendment

With the recommendation that the substitute (H-2) be adopted and that the bill then pass.
