2020 House Bill 6259

Repeal protectionist auto dealer regulatory regime

Introduced in the House

Sept. 23, 2020

Introduced by Rep. Steven Johnson (R-72)

To repeal a state law that imposes specific mandates and restrictions on the sale of new vehicles in a way protects new car dealers from manufacturers’ efforts to roll back a system entrenched in many states’ laws that grants exclusive territories to dealers of particular brands, and essentially prohibits automakers from updating distribution methods in ways that reduce costs and make the market more competitive.
