2019 Senate Bill 267

Gov. Whitmer’s “Michigan opportunity initiative” scholarship proposal

Introduced in the Senate

April 16, 2019

Introduced by Sen. Jim Ananich (D-27)

To authorize a community college grant program for individuals with a high school diploma or equivalent, with grants in the amount needed to cover tuition and fees for up to 60 credit hours of career-oriented classes at a community college. The bill does not specify a household income or age cap for this benefit. Also, to authorize a university grant program for individuals with household income of $80,000 or less, which would pay up to $2,500 of the amount that is not covered by other scholarships and government aid. This is the “Michigan opportunity initiative” program proposed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in her 2018 State of the State address.
