2019 Senate Bill 168

Increase statewide minimum wage mandate

Introduced in the Senate

March 7, 2019

Introduced by Sen. Betty Alexander (D-5)

To make it unlawful to pay a worker less than $12.00 per hour by 2022, by gradually increasing the current $9.45 per hour mandate. Also, to eliminate by 2024 a lower minimum wage that is required for tipped workers, which is 38 percent of the minimum wage for others. Under current law, a tipped-worker’s employer must still pay the difference between the lower amount and the regular minimum wage if tips come up short.
