2017 Senate Joint Resolution N

Choose statewide office candidates in primary not party convention

Introduced in the Senate

Nov. 8, 2017

Introduced by Sen. Ian Conyers (D-4)

To place before voters in the next general election a constitutional amendment to no longer select major party candidates for lieutenant governor, attorney general and secretary of state in party conventions, which would presumably mean they would be selected in the August primary election. Also, to make supreme court justice races non-partisan, which would mean these candidates would also no longer be selected in party conventions.
