2017 House Bill 4944

Make drivers cut speed in half when passing emergency vehicles on roadside

Introduced in the House

Sept. 13, 2017

Introduced by Rep. Aaron Miller (R-59)

To revise a law that requires drivers to move over or slow down when passing a police car or other emergency vehicles on the side of the road, by specifying that drivers must slow to half the speed limit on surface roads, or slow to 45 miles per hour on freeways. Recent laws have expanded the types of vehicles to which this applies to tow trucks, garbage trucks, road-repair vehicles and utility vehicles.
