2007 House Bill 4901

Return wetland permit process to federal authorities

Introduced in the House

June 12, 2007

Introduced by Rep. John Moolenaar (R-98)

To transfer from the Department of Environmental Quality to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers the authority for issuing permits granting a landowner permission to undertake improvements on his or her land if it has been designated a wetland. Michigan is one of only two states that perform this function. The bill would repeal the DEQ’s authority in this area, upon which the process would automatically revert to the federal government.
