2022 Senate Bill 880

Impose 5% state tax, regulation and registration mandated on short term rentals

Introduced in the Senate

Feb. 17, 2022

Introduced by Sen. Jim Ananich (D-27)

To impose regulation, a state registration mandate and a 5% state excise tax on a person who rents out their property using Airbnb-type short term rentals. The bill would only go into effect if House Bill 4722 also becomes law. That bill would allow local governments to restrict a person to offering short term rentals on just two properties in their jurisdiction, limit the total number of short term rentals to 30% of the local rental market, impose regulations on noise, advertising, traffic, nuisances, dwelling capacity, inspections, fees and taxes and more.
