2022 House Bill 6225

Revise local business promotion subsidy assessments

Introduced in the House

June 14, 2022

Introduced by Rep. Yousef Rabhi (D-53)

To revise a law that authorizes local business interests to petition for a vote on creating local “principal shopping districts” and “business improvement districts” with the power to impose property taxes styled as “special assessments” on business property owners. The bill would create a system whereby the votes on authorizing the tax increase and the assessments it would impose would be weighted according to the taxable value of the property. In other words, the votes of business with more valuable properties would count more, and they would pay more.
