2019 Senate Bill 331

Expand wage discrimination "protected class" status

Introduced in the Senate

May 21, 2019

Introduced by Sen. Winnie Brinks (D-29)

To revise the state minimum wage law enacted by the legislature in response to a 2018 initiative by expanding its ban on paying differential wages on the basis of sex to also ban this on the basis of membership in a protected class established by the state’s civil rights law (religion, race, color, national origin, age, sex, height, weight, or marital status). Employers in violation would be subject to the sanctions authorized by that law.
