2018 House Bill 6324

Revise cyber-school management details

Introduced in the House

Sept. 5, 2018

Introduced by Rep. Jim Lilly (R-89)

To change various titles and mission details of the office in the state Department of Education (the “virtual university”) whose duty is to manage online public “cyber-schools.” Among other things the bill would make expanding the offerings for middle school classes one of the missions of this entity. It would also eliminate a provision requiring the office to “explore” providing a “full curriculum for migrant pupils that would be available through distance learning.” The bill would also establish that home-schooled or nonpublic school students who reside in within a school district that subscribes to the state’s “virtual school” services cannot not be charged any more to use those services than the charge for students enrolled in the school district.
