2018 House Bill 5412

Revise definition of “non-paper record” in open records law

Introduced in the House

Jan. 16, 2018

Introduced by Rep. Brandt Iden (R-61)

To remove the details attached to the definition of “nonpaper physical media” in a section of the Freedom of Information Act that prescribes fees for fulfilling document requests. Under current law this is defined as “computer discs, computer tapes, or other digital or similar media.” This would be replaced by just “nonpaper physical media,” presumably because the types of storage media have expanded faster than legislators can update definitions.
