Increase “wage theft” penalties

To increase the penalties for violation a state wage-and-hours law that requires prompt and timely payment of employees according to standards the law prescribes. The bill would increase a late payment penalty imposed on employers from 10 percent of the amount owed to 100 percent, increase punitive damages that state officials may impose from twice to three-times the amount owed, and increase a maximum $1,000 civil fine to $10,000.
