Increase “wage theft” penalties

To increase the penalties for violation a state wage-and-hours law that requires prompt and timely payment of employees according to standards the law prescribes. The bill would increase a late payment penalty imposed on employers from 10 percent of the amount owed to 100 percent (in addition to the unpaid wages themselves), increase punitive damages that state officials may levy from twice to three-times the amount owed, and increase a maximum $1,000 civil fine to $10,000.
