2017 House Bill 5080

“Bad driver tax” repeal and amnesty

Introduced in the House

Oct. 5, 2017

Introduced by Rep. Jewell Jones (D-11)

To add a workforce training payment program as an alternative to payment of outstanding “driver responsibility fees” (“bad driver tax”). See House Bills 5040 to 5046, which would terminate these fees and the liability of individuals who owe them. These very expensive fees were originally adopted in 2003 to avoid spending cuts in that year’s and subsequent state government budgets.
