2017 House Bill 5042

“Bad driver tax” repeal and amnesty

Introduced in the House

Sept. 28, 2017

Introduced by Rep. Leslie Love (D-10)

To authorize amnesty for individuals with liability for outstanding “driver responsibility fees” (“bad driver tax”). The bill would clear any outstanding liability an individual may have to perform community service as an alternative to paying these fees. House Bill 5040 would abolish the fees effective Sept. 30, 2018. These very expensive fees were originally adopted in 2003 to avoid spending cuts in that year’s and subsequent state government budgets.
