2017 House Bill 4675

Revise juvenile justice age considerations

Introduced in the House

May 30, 2017

Introduced by Rep. Vanessa Guerra (D-95)

To revise the factors a court must consider when determining whether to try as an adult a juvenile accused of a serious crime. The bill would eliminate a requirement that the court give greater weight to the seriousness of the crime and the juvenile's prior record than to other criteria. This is one of several bills in a broader "raise the age" juvenile justice reform effort that would no longer automatically treat minors who commit certain crimes as adults.

Referred to the Committee on Law and Justice

Nov. 28, 2018

Reported without amendment

With the recommendation that the substitute (H-1) be adopted and that the bill then pass.
