To replace an existing licensure and comprehensive regulatory regime imposed on elevator contractors, installers and inspectors with a new one. This issue entered the news recently when a <a href="http://www.michiganvotes.org/2015-HB-4162">a bill became law</a> that exempts stairway and platform lifts for elderly or handicapped individuals in private residences from the same licensure mandates that apply to real elevators in high-rise buildings.
