2011 House Bill 4910

Revise local tax increase election timetable

Introduced in the House

Sept. 7, 2011

Introduced by Rep. Cindy Denby (R-47)

To change the time between when a municipal swimming pool authority board votes to impose a new property tax, and the first date on which the popular election required for such local tax hikes may be held. Under current law, there must be 70 days until the election. The bill would change the earliest election date to “the 12th Tuesday” after the board vote. The election also must be on one of the four regular statewide election days (the fourth Tuesday in February, or the Tuesday after the first Monday in either May, August, or November).
