2008 Senate Bill 1532 / Public Act 389

Require state-specific markings on for-deposit beverage containers

Introduced in the Senate

Sept. 23, 2008

Introduced by Sen. Ron Jelinek (R-21)

To require beverage container dealers to add unique markings to containers sold in this state that make them readable by “reverse vending machines” used by retailers to process bottle deposit returns. This would not apply to brands of beverage that have lower volume sales, and is intended to catch non-deposit containers turned-in for a deposit. See also House Bill 5148.

Referred to the Committee on Appropriations

Substitute offered

To replace the previous version of the bill with one that revises details but does not change the substance of the bill as previously described.
