Impose new regulations on cemetery owners

To impose new regulations on cemetery owners that would closely regulate the use of perpetual care trust funds by cemetery owners, require background checks of new owners, grant additional investigatory powers to the state, establish new crimes in statute and increase penalties for violations, revise the duties and responsibilities of cemetery receivers and conservators, and more. The bill is part of a package comprised of House Bills 6033 to 6042, which were introduced following a high-profile case in which an individual reportedly embezzled millions of dollars from scores of cemeteries around the nation, including many in Michigan.
