2007 House Bill 5183

Revise MSHDA subsidy detail

Introduced in the House

Sept. 6, 2007

Introduced by Rep. Philip LaJoy (R-21)

To require a multi-unit residential landlord whose property is subject to a “service charge in lieu of local property taxes” due to its having been subsidized by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), to notify tenants of the portion of the service fee attributable to their rents, so that they may file the right amount for a homestead property tax credit on their income tax. The “service charge in lieu of local property taxes” is based on the rents collected by the landlord. The bill would apply to tenants whose unit accounts for less than 10 percent of the service charge.
