2003 House Resolution 28

Offered in the House

March 18, 2003

Offered by Rep. Doug Hart (R-73)

To urge the Governor to create a commission on student backpack safety.

Referred to the Committee on Families and Childrens Services

June 10, 2003

Substitute offered

To replace the previous version of the resolution with one would urge the Governor to proclaim October as student backpack safety month, rather than to create a government commission on student backpack safety.

The substitute passed by voice vote

Adopted in the House by voice vote

To urge the Governor to proclaim October as student backpack safety month for the purpose of raising awareness of the effects of heavy backpacks on the children of Michigan, and how to best address any present or imminent problems presented by excessive backpack weight. Upon deliberation, the House declined to adopt the resolution as introduced, which would have urged the Governor to create a government commission on student backpack safety.
