2002 Senate Bill 1433

Introduced in the Senate

Sept. 19, 2002

Introduced by Sen. Loren Bennett (R-8)

To exempt law enforcement personnel from the “carry concealed weapon” (CCW) license law restriction which prohibits carrying a concealed pistol on the premises of certain institutions, including a school or school property, a child care facility, a sports arena or stadium, a bar, a place of worship, an entertainment facility with a seating capacity of 2,500 or more, a hospital, and a dormitory or classroom of a college or university. The bill would also exempt law enforcement personnel from CCW application fees and license renewal fingerprint requirements, and require expedited processing of an application from law enforcement personnel. “Law enforcement personnel” is defined as a retired or active parole officer; a corrections officer; a conservation officer; an auxiliary, reserve, or volunteer police officer, whether paid or not; a part-time police officer; a sheriff, other than a deputy sheriff; an investigator for this state or a political subdivision of this state who is authorized to carry a firearm in the course of his or her duties; or a court officer.
