Re: 2012 House Bill 5244 (Prohibit insurance pricing on credit scores and more )

Everyone should be voting YES on this!!! I have a 19-year-old son and it's killing me to insure him!! I can't find anything less than $350 a month to insure him on his old car (he's not even insured on MY car!) I don't own my own home and have nothing else to insure, so I can't get "cheaper" rates for my 2 cars!! (they only give you a discount if you're spending lots of money elsewhere with them - and forget the "multi-car discount" - it's only a few dollars and is no help at all). No, neither one of us have tickets or accidents on our name!!

We in Michigan are FORCED to pay these rates - with "no fault insurance" laws, we DON'T HAVE ANY CHOICE - and we SHOULD be given CHOICES!!!! We are FORCED to pay these rates, because there is NO OTHER WAY TO GET AROUND IN MICHIGAN - our public transportation system is either very limited (buses only run on a few main roads and can take HOURS for you to get to your destination) or completely non-existent. The auto insurance industry (as well as the auto industry) has us all by the you-know-what, because we HAVE NO OTHER CHOICES!!!

I have a not-so-good credit score - mostly because I've had teenagers for the last 8 years and have been paying $350-$500 a month so they can drive to work and school!!! They do give me some money, but I also count on them to help out with paying for other "necessities" (like food) ... and a part-time (or even full-time) minimum wage does not go that far - especially with GAS PRICES always being so high. I have been a single mother for years, and I'm almost at my breaking point. I'm so far behind and in debt that it's gonna take YEARS to break even, and even longer to actually have a SAVINGS account (I get no help from their deadbeat dad, who ran away to another state - and no, I have NEVER gotten a dime from welfare or foodstamps - I WORK for a living and teach my kids not to sponge off the government when they are perfectly able to work)

Between the unaffordable car payments, unaffordable gas prices and unaffordable car insurance, I am bankrupt every month, and can't always afford to pay my bills on time (a few have never even been paid at all). So yeah, my credit score is mediocre (and that's being generous) - so it's a never-ending cycle - she can't pay her bills, so lets raise her car insurance!!

If I can't afford to pay my other bills and my credit score suffers - WHY WOULD YOU THINK I CAN AFFORD TO PAY MORE FOR CAR INSURANCE??  HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO EVER GET AHEAD, FINANCIALLY, when everywhere we turn - the gas/oil companies, insurance companies and banks (who give us car loans) - are sucking us dry???? My oldest daughter has already left this state and moved to a city in another state with an excellent public transportation system - she LOVES it and says she saves SO much money. And you wonder why there's been such an exodus from the state of Michigan in the last several years. People just can't afford to live here. Car payments, car insurance and fuel eat up a HUGE chunk of our earnings. And no one wants to give us a break, anywhere.

I hope our representatives in Lansing have a heart .... it's totally unfair that Michigan has the HIGHEST car insurance rates in the country ... when we're also the state who's most-FORCED to own a car in the first place. PLEASE do something about this ... I can't understand why you all are always bowing down to the big insurance companies ... they have BILLIONS of $$$ and we have nothing.

My credit score has nothing to do with my driving ability. All should support legislation to stop insurance companies from discriminating against those with low credit scores. Having made the decision to not use credit and go into debt after a bankruptcy 4 years ago, I now find my credit score plummeting because I do not borrow money.!! So now my Auto insurance rates go up. I have not yet read the bill but would hope there is a provision to refund those without accidents/claims who have been charged more based on their credit.

I've studied the credit unions in florida and i think that they have a very good point regarding this insurance pricing that we are sensing right now. I think that this is unnecessary and the credit scores should remain as they are. I think that when it comes to economy it is very good to think outside the box but sometimes it is good to stay in your comfort area when there is no real threat.
