This bill is not to impose more auctioneer regulations. That is merely the end result. Article 29 of the Occupational Code has some flaws. This bill corrects those flaws and makes it possible for more auctioneers to register.
At present the law states auctioneers must attend accredited auction schools. Accreditation is something that happens to secondary and post secondary education, not career schools.
The law is also flawed in the rules concerning money handling. 4766 makes the distinction between presale monies and sale proceeds as each require different handling. One additional regulation for auctioneers would be the requirement there be a complete accounting of all presale monies spent.
The other requirement would be mandatory continuing education in order to be able to be reciprocal with the other thirty some states which have adopted a model license law.
