What if an insurer or HMO wants to sell its products through the exchange, thereby taking advantage of the benefits of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act for their insured and for themselves? Why would they NOT want to take advantage of any federal subsidies that may be available for their insured clients?
I think if our citizens don't have the federal subsidies available to them, they won't be able to afford to purchase health insurance. Without health insurance, people get sick, either seek help too late or not at all, and become permanently disabled or die.
I know I have a lot of questions, but are there other ways that our Michigan legislature can utilize that will make our state even more backwards, out of touch with the rest of the nation, and further injure, both financially and health-wise, the men, women, and children of Michigan?
Exactly what constituency is this legislation supposed to appease? Since this bill doesn't create any jobs or otherwise improve the economic climate in Michigan, it can only be our legislators disagree with the federal government's premise that all citizens of the United States deserve decent affordable healthcare coverage. Our Michigan legislators know better.
