 Let the subsidy be in the form of tax credits, not a Solyndra type of boondoggle. If the company has a credible product, investors will finance their project When they trun a profit, then we should give them to tax break so the can pay back their investors or expand their business.  We should have learned from Solyndra.

Crony Capitalism.  Taxpayers' money wasted again.  Let the free market work for a change.  Only then will the state & country prosper:  the government is the problem.  They are mistaken in their thinking that spending other people's money is being charitable and moral.

So,  Bill after Bill we see nearly straight party lines. Now we see an example of the REAL nature of the Republican Caucus. There are no REAL Conservatives. You see no difference between Republicans and Democrats. 

Snyder's Cronies at Business Leaders for Michigan and The Center for Michigan claim Free Market Capitalism in the Detroit Free Press, yet behaive just the opposite, working for socialized capital and privatized profit. 

On the other hand, if the Republicans did not offer a carrot and the jobs went elsewhere, they would be accused about not caring for the little guy etc.  They can be no true conservatives. There are too many people who live off of entitlements, government jobs or are otherwise a government protected species. If it was to abolish or reduce any of those, they would immediately be voted out.

If this Townsend Ventures deal is so great, why don't they get private investors to assume the risk?  Don't burden the taxpayers.  $50M.

 Again, Senator Mike Kowall (R) and company grant another subsidy for a private entity which is actually the taking the fruits of the labor of the taxpayers to grant favors at the expense of someone else.  That someone else includes any and all competitors.
Lobbyists are having a hay-day in Lansing.

This is a classic example of crony capitalism.  At least this one has some minor recapture provisions. 

This is not what the government of the State of Michigan should be doing.  When this company goes belly up, or pulls a Pfizer and leaves, no one will be around to ask why it didn't work.  They will be too busy trying to pass a bill to support the emerging product of the day:  halogen headlamp fluid or left-handed smoke-shifters.

Rinse and repeat. 

 So that's what's wrong with my halogen headlamps!! There oughta be a law requiring dealers to check headlamp fluid. I'm sure if we can subsidize ethanol and soy diesel,we can also subsidize headlamp fluid.

This will help prevent the decay we see in Detroit and other areas.  If we don't support this type of growth, it will end up in Tennessee like many of our Automotive jobs.  These corporations are going to the highest bidder and if we don't play on "moral grounds" we will lose.  You may not like it but it is pure capitalism!  If you owned the company what would you do?  This will bring a net increase in state income as well.  Think of the construction jobs alone.  Nice job Lansing

 

At some point some investments need to be done in electric car technologies, we should accept these facts a bit easier. A car is built from so many pieces, electric car may bring some modifications to these pieces and each plant need to specialize in this direction. I was surprised to see how complex a Borla exhaust system can be, I can imagine it's the same with other pieces.

If any of these government financed projects had a reasonable chance for success, private capital would have invested in them. The governments involvement is just another way of their hand picking which industries they want to see succeed. It puts " progressives" in the way of actual progress.

Much of the complexity of factory designed systems is not due to engineering for reliability or mileage but due to the neccesity to comply with Government regulations. Botique aftermarket systems are designed to appeal to the vanity of the buyers and many do not meet EPA regs by labeling them "not for on road use" etc and give instructions to remove them before emissions testing or warranty claims.
