Re: 2011 House Bill 4821 (Tighten state liquor monopoly price controls)

I'm not much of a drinker and have a family history of alcoholics on my mothers side.  I feel people have the liberty to choose whether they drink alcohol or not.  I lay this out on the table because I am not much of a drinker and oppose this proposed bill.

I do not feel House Bill 4821 will do any justice to our already suffering businesses and economy.  Businesses should be allowed to set prices as they see fit.  The market will self correct if prices are too high or too low.  This is how the free market works.

I would rather see a bill introduced that takes the State of Michigan out of the alcohol wholesale business.  By impossing minimum prices and specific commissions, the original and proposed bills are methods of increasing revenue with using the word "tax."

Merriam Webster defines uniform as 'not varying or variable'.  Not varying or variable is FIXED.  This will not allow retailers to sell alcohol higher than the FIXED price set forth by the commission.  I urge everyone to read the modified bill and replace the word UNIFORM with the word FIXED to better understand the meaning.

Businesses need to make a profit to survive, otherwise they close their doors and people lose their jobs.
