2011 House Bill 4218 (Increase power of school and local emergency financial managers )

Introduced in the House on February 9, 2011, to revise references in the local government and school district fiscal accountability act to conform to the enhanced emergency financial manager powers proposed by House Bill 4214. Among other things, that bill would give the EFM the power to cancel existing government or teacher union contracts

The vote was 62 in favor, 47 opposed and 1 not voting

Thanks to the Senate Republicans and the House Republicans this bill will now go to Governor Snyder to be signed into law, in effect, giving the fox the keys to the henhouse!  Shame on all of them!  This bill will "privatize" local school districts and usurp the powers of OUR elected officials while destroying whole communities in the process.  It will have an exact "reverse effect" at creating jobs that Governor Snyder campaigned on, proving that he and his Repbulican legislators are all incorrigible liars!

Governor Snyder stated recently in a televised news report that he had no desire to take away collective bargaining rights from Michigan public employee's but that is exactly what this bill will do when he signs it into law!  It is high-time that Michgan voters stand together and recall this Governor and his mean-spirited Republican legislature before they destroy the whole State...Jim Schaefer

Thank you Rachael Maddow! This legislation was passed into law in 1990 under Governor Blanchard, who by the way, was a Democrat. Granholm sent EFM's to six cities, among them Pontiac, Highland Park and Benton Harbor. Robert Bobb was appointed to fix Detroit Public Schools under her watch. The only thing this legislation does is allow the EFM to void union contracts to save a city/school district from bankruptcy. These contracts would be voided anyway if bankruptcy were to be filed. Government can now be PRO-active instead of RE-active, which is really what lead Michigan to the point we are now. Snyder was not my first choice for Governor, but he was elected to make the tough changes necessary to fix our state. Unlike the former Governor, he has proven he has the stones to make these decisions.

Talk about giving the keys to the hen house away.  Based on the union inspired quote above, it's safe to say jfredmuggins is a school union member and is biased by selective self interest.

I fully support this Bill.  Then again, I'm self interested too; I have children in the public school system and I'm a taxpayer.
