Businesses don't pay taxes, People pay taxes. Any expense associated with a business is an expense that needs to be recouped through fees passed on to the consumer. If the cost of doing business goes up, the fees/charges/costs passed on to consumers goes up. These types of "fees" are just a way of raising taxes without calling them a tax. It's an end run around citizens via a "divide and conquer" tactic. Politicians can saw "we're not raising taxes, we're just going after those big businesses that are making so much money off you poor citizens. They should pay their fair share." Sounds reasonable to folks that have been trained to think in terms of "them vs. us," in terms of "classes" of people, for people that have been brainwashed to think that business is bad, when business is what creates jobs and wealth for all of us as well as for the state. This is nothing more than a pass through tax. I don't have cable, sattelite or anything, I'm still on the primitive rabbit ears, but I would oppose it. Before too long, they will propose a tax similar to one in Ireland that says you have to pay a tax to have TV at all, even if you just use rabbit ears.
