Private security forces = the big-dollar solution.  Instead, why not simply allow adult students and faculty who have CCW permits (known as CPLs here in Michigan) to carry their weapons on campus as they do everywhere else?  One could also solicit said CPL holders and gun owners to VOLUNTEER for a certain amount of security duty, so that the only thing the school would be on the hook for is training.  Troy, MI, has a top-notch fire department, and it is all volunteer.  Money normally spent on wages is diverted to better training and equipment.  There's NO reason that this couldn't be done for campus security as well.

You would most likely get what you paid for.
