We have to pay for bad decisions made by others on a regular basis. People who smoke, who over eat and are obese, people who spend too much time in the sun. And those are just the medical bad decisions we all pay for. There's the bad decisions businesses make, and of course, government makes. We end up paying for all of those. On the upside, we share in the rewards of good decisions, or we should, if life were fair.
I agree the money would be much better spent going into a fund to pay medical cost of those suffering head injuries from motorcycle accidents. As proposed, this just seems like a way to make more money for the state. I'm not denying the state doesn't need more money, but if the issue is the burden these people who want to ride helmetless put on our medical cost, having them contribute to a fund to cover that cost seems more fair, and would help relieve some financial burden on the state also.
