A Day in the Life of Joe Republican

Joe gets up at 6am and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards.

 

<no, the water is good because some common sense conservative thought enough of his constituents to keep some tree hugging liberal from buying up all the land that the water system supplies water to, using taxpayer money, to make into wetlands to save the left-handed dingen-phutzer bird.>

With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and they work as advertised.

<no, his pills are safe because some businessman paid to make sure they were safe and  continues to pay to assure that they STAY safe from some tree-hugging liberal who thinks that the medical profession should stop testing drugs on poor defensless animals.>

 

All but $10 of his medications is paid by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too.

He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. Joe begins his workday. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union member fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union.

If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get workers compensation check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of a temporary misfortune.

It is noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FDIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.

Joe has to pay Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the country would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime.

<sorry, joe got a full academic scholarship, because joe went to PRIVATE SCHOOLS, and his FILTHY RICH parents fronted him a NO INTEREST LOAN to buy his first house, which he paid back within two years. now joe owns his house free and clear and is beholden to no one. he even pays his taxes on time.  Joe forgets that in addition to his federally subsidized student loan, he attended a state funded university.

Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the taxpayer funded roads.  (Not private toll roads)

He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans.

If that is a reference to Michigan’s governor, well, that election is two years off. 

Realists like to deal in facts, not crowing speculation about future events.

One of the most interesting trend maps coming out of the 2008 election is one that depicts voting shifts across the country that overwhelmingly favored the Democrats.

Aftermath of the 2008 election leaves 29 Democrat and 21 Republican governors. 

Eleven governorships were up for grabs in the 2008 election, with six seats held by Democrats and five by Republicans going into election day.  At the end of the day when the votes were counted Democrats had won seven of the contested seats, while Republicans won four. 

That puts the Dems up by one and the Repugs down by one, according to conventional arithmetic.

Thirty-five US Senate seats were up for filling in the 2008 election, 23 of them held by Republicans and 12 by Democrats.  No Democrat incumbents were defeated.  Democrats took four seats away from Republican incumbents and claimed three open seats.  One seat remains undecided this date.  The Democrats are expected to hold at least 56 of 100 seats in the new Senate after the dust settles.

In the US House, all 435 seats were up for election in November 2008.  Democrats had a majority going in and expanded their majority by 21 seats in the election.  The new House balance will be 257 Democrats and 178 Republicans.

BTW, does anybody else who grew up during the Cold War years find it amusing that Republicans are cast as “reds” and “pinks” while democrats are cast as “blues.”  Wonder what that means?

the 'GIVE THEM' democrats are really pissed that GW took the wind out of their sails by offering the golden parachute packages before YOUR MAN could get it done. pity really, it won't help the auto industry. they are a lost cause in this country thanks to the numerous and onerous rules and regulations that they can't afford to put up with anymore.

the auto industry is just as happy moving to mexico, brazil and china. they will still make millions of cars, possibly a few to sell here, and their highest expenses will be far behind them, rusting in michigan.

now, what was that about being ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS? the BIG THREE has polluted the soil and water around here so badly in the last hundred years that it might just take another hundred to clean it up. and remember, the unions and the democrats watched them do it for the entire time and did NOTHING.

what about SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS? the union members are the only ones with proper healthcare, no one else can afford it. the democrats watched that happen too, and DID NOTHING.

as far as PROGRESSIVE LEGISLATION goes, those guys in lansing can't pick their noses without causing a brain hemmorage or two, they only REACT to bad news, and try to put a band-aid on it to make the boo-boo go away. i'm STILL waiting for our esteemed governor to blow us away. she only has two more years out of eight. she's done NOTHING so far, i'm not holding my breath for any results at all.

he PROMISED to fix the housing problem, which got him millions of 'middle america' votes,  but they are still foreclosing on thousands of properties a week. i doubt that will slow down any time soon. besides, what's he gonna do about it? buy up all the forclosed properties with our tax money???

he PROMISED to save the automobile industry, which got him thousands of union votes, but they are determined to move to God knows where before the unions make any more dumb salary demands.

he PROMISED to RE-DISTRIBUTE THE WEALTH, which got him thousands of "sponge votes" from people  who eat "gubmint cheeze"  for a living.

he PROMISED us PEACE WITH HONOR, which got him the youth vote, but now those young people realize that PEACE WITH HONOR means SURRENDERING.

now, imagine what happens when those promises aren't kept.  all those democrats vote republican, just like they did for GW... TWICE.

Sorry, but I was dealing in the facts of the last election, not with speculative polls regarding elections to come.

I believe that old TrueBlue likewise was making reference to 2008 election results, not speculative polls about future elections.

statewide... our representatives are republican, and they are STILL republican, with an extra seat or two being added in our area.

locally... our mayor is republican, our sheriff is republican, our city council is republican, our police chief is republican... not a democrat in the bunch.

I voted for McStupid because I could not vote for a liar and a cheat.  I am honest to myself.  It was a protest vote.

Certainly Obama is better than McStupid, but there was MORE at issue.   I could NOT vote for Obama for many reasons but his taking his name off the Michigan ballot was un-democratic and un-American. Especially since the same conditions existed for Florida yet he didnt take his name off the ballot there.
