    "journal statement"

Senator Whitmer asked and was granted unanimous consent to make a statement and moved that the statement be printed in the Journal. The motion prevailed. Senator Whitmer’s statement is as follows: I rise in support of this bill, enthusiastic support of this bill. Why? Well, you see, once upon a time, this was a Whitmer bill, part of a bipartisan package of bills that the Senator from Holland and I introduced back in June. So, apparently the leadership thought that this was good public policy and that makes me happy. So I want to thank the Senator from DeWitt for taking my bill. It’s going to be signed into law. Likewise, I would like to thank the voters of the state for enacting my stem cell bill and my colleague from Novi for the gift card bill. I thank you; it’s good public policy. I look forward to sharing some of my other bills because that is what it is all about—public policy, not credit. I enthusiastically endorse your support of this bill.
