Introduced in the Senate on December 6, 2007, to authorize the Secretary of State to create an enhanced drivers license and state identification card with security features and application procedures specified in the bill that would make it meet the standards required to meet the federal Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. This new federal regulation will require all persons traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean region to present a passport or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the U.S. The application and renewal fee for these optional state documents would be $50, of which a portion would be used to pay for other state spending
