    Stop The Elitism!

This bill perpetuates the concept that, somehow, a class of law-abiding citizenry who happen to be government agents are better than the rest of the law-abiding citizenry. Of course, that is a bogus idea and, really, we need to work to get rid of all vestiges of the culture of superiority in government. Honorable Acciavatti's HB 4759 is a model for that.

    Stop The Elitism! I agree

We are headed right back to where we were 20 years ago. One of the reasons I fought to gr shall issue passed(I had a general)was to make everyone that could legally own and carry a firearms have the right to be able to protect themselves and their family. I live in Northwest lower Mich and it seems like all the problems we have had are cops screwing up. there have been several instances in the Traverse City Area where LE have gotten away with things that I would have been in jail for. One instance a of duty cop discharged hi firearm, the hit a person in the head with it and caused permanent brain damage. I am sure there were civil charges but it seems when LE is involved in any kind of problem it just seems to go away. recently there was a State Police officer that was in a local bar for most of the day. He left the bat according to bar patrons drunk. He proceeded to leave the road and hit a tree with his Suburban, left the scene of the accident leaving at least one firearm, possibly two along with a badge and uniforms. I am not sure if he even got arrested even after filing a false insurance claim. He did get transfered to another location, oh I forgot something, if I remember correctly this was the second time he was involved with a serious alcohol related infraction that you or I would have gone to jail for. Just think this guy and others will be able to carry in places we can not defend ourselves from them if the get drunk again and put us in harms way. NO, WE NEED TO KEEP THE LAWS THE SAME FOR EVERYONE! Come on legislator's think, we will be paying pensions for these jokers that is enough of a slap in the face. I do need to say most of LE are honest and does do the right thing, but they need to hold their peers to the same standard they would hold me.There have been many times where they have not made a officer that appeared drunk even that a test. One even left the scene and went home and got drunker to steady his nerves, and we also need to thank our judges for allowing this to go on. Sorry about the rant.

    Is my life worth less?

When I see laws like this it always makes me wonder: does my government think that my life is not worth protecting as well as it's law enforcement officers? Am I not to be trusted, even though I've jumped through every hoop I've been asked to? If you look at the behavior of all CPL holders, it has been exemplary -- even moreso than police officers! (We lost the ability to carry into casinos because an off-duty LEO had a bad night and shot himself with his duty pistol. Now CPLs cannot carry there, but COPS STILL CAN! How did THAT happen?) We need to eliminate ALL "no carry zones" and let honest, law abiding people, both citizen and LEO alike, to be able to protect themselves and each other anywhere.

It's time to eliminate all pistol free zones

Those working in Law Enforcement are no better than any other American who has met all of the requirements for a CPL. It's time to eliminate pistol free zones for everyone. It's not the law abiding CPL holder or Police Officer who commits the crime it's the criminal who steals the weapon or buys it illegally on the street and carrys it anywhere they want because they aren't abiding by the laws.

    Well Said

but the state will never go for it.

    this state wants us all

disarmed. it cares not for the united states constitution, the michigan constitution, or the guarantees they contain. all they care about is disarming the population so that they can get away with their tyranny. high taxes for no services IS TYRANNY. repressive laws that fight business IS TYRANNY. excessive fines and fees ARE TYRANNY. the constitution was written by men who knew what it meant to fight off tyranny, maybe it's time we learned that lesson.

    Over six years

Over the past six years Michigan’s CPL licensees have a fantastic record for no “blood in the streets”, which was predicted by the naysayers. It is time to remove all of the “criminal safe zones” for every licensee. All evidence and experience point to improved safety for everyone, particularly in places such as schools and churches. Let’s get Representative Acciavatti’s HB 4769 passed and be done with it. It is absurd to allow LEOs, whose criminal record is far worse than Michigan’s civilian licensees, special privileges while denying them to everyone else. This is a bad bill. Instead, let’s urge the House to hold a committee hearing on HB 5769.

    hey dave.

this fantastic record is par for the course with c.p.l. holders in all states, and our c.p.l. holders should be congratulated for the exemplary safety record they have strived to maintain. instead they are penalized for the mistakes and blunders of poorly trained police officers around the state. they are saddled with poorly thought out regulations and restrictions simply because the legislators writing them are anti-gun. lawmakers here don't trust you to 'restrain yourself'. they think you have to be held back, by force if necessary, from running amok and killing at will. they live on the 'knife edge' of fear constantly that one of the law abiding permit holders will 'pull a virgina tech' and blow away hordes of 'innocent victims'. then, when some non-permit holding nutcase actually DOES the unthinkable, they slap a few more restrictions on the law abiding permit holders. i realized what the hopolophobic legislators were up to years ago, and i'm sure you did too. when are we going to get the hopolophobes out of office? keep up the good work, and be careful out there.

    Re:Over six years

David, Thanks for bringing this fact, yet again, to our attention. I am amazed sometimes at how little media attention has been given to it in these six years, considering the overwhelming media attention to the predictions of doom prior to passage of shall-issue laws. This fact just adds to the mountain of evidence nationwide burying advocates of gun-control and elitism.

To the idiot above this post

The bills have the same language. Dont ask me why but they are the same. To some of the other people who wrote might i suggest these things take small incremental steps. No way will it all get changed immediately. So lets take the little steps and pretty soon the law will be the way we need it.

    This Bill

Is more elitst hogwash that would endow certain individuals who have government connections (i.e., government agents) special privileges not enjoyed by the run of Michigan citizens. It shoud be opposed for that reason, as a matter of principle. The bill to support is HB 4759, which eliminates the so-called pistol-free zones altogether, without favoritism to benefit only government agents or other elites.
  • 10-22-2007 4:53 AM In reply to

    the bill to support is

one that will allow ALL law abiding citizens to carry a weapon anywhere, anytime, any way they choose. it's up to the citizen to decide whether or not he or she wishes to carry concealed, not the state. it's not the state's job to get involved with personal protection decisions. they don't have enough time to balance the budget, but they have time to make up silly laws about where law abiding citizens may or may not carry guns. why aren't they working on making the streets safer for us? they don't want to. they'd rather charge us to buy our rights back. i don't know about you, but the current laws in this state don't give me the feeling that freedom has been preserved for me, or my posterity.
