that rail traffic is increasing, yet norfolk southern is looking to CLOSE lines. it only makes sense to close lines if the traffic is DECREASING.
someone is misinformed here.

if the government wants those lines so badly, it can buy them. but then again, running a railroad is NOT THE PROPER ROLE OF GOVERNMENT.
perhaps if the state CUT THE RAILROAD'S TAXES, they would stay.
