    Terrible Bill

I assume big business, the HSUS, or Peta are behind this bill. They've been trying to get this introduced for a while now. The truth about the HSUS is here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=CDHyAEa9LIk Please take a look.
  • 03-21-2007 5:35 PM In reply to

Terrible bill! I'll vote against my Represenative if he votes for this.
  • 03-21-2007 5:42 PM In reply to

    NO NO NO

NO NO NO Absolutely not. I will not vote nor spend my money in any business affiliated with anybody involved in this idiocy.
  • 03-21-2007 5:56 PM In reply to

Supporting this bill would be a disservice to all of Michigan's residents along with it's livestock and wildlife.

    BAD Bill

Is ignorance running our politics????? This is a bad bill....Trapping is an effective, humane tool used for the management of our natural resources.....Wenke's looking to get some $$$ to forward his career elsewhere after his term is up....The Sportsman of Michigan WILL remember....go back to growing flowers!
  • 03-21-2007 7:22 PM In reply to

    Absolutely Retarded!

Leave wildlife management to biologist, the NRC, DNR, and Sportsman.
  • 03-22-2007 4:56 AM In reply to

Yes, I do believe Al Gore, as a matter of fact! I'd vote for him.

    Too bad he's not running.
  • 03-22-2007 6:45 AM In reply to

    No! No! No!

Leave animal management up to the professional's. We need sound scientific management not well meaning amatuers running our programs. Backing this bill could be very costly in future votes

    Anti-Sportsman Bill!!!!

This is nothing more than a politician with an anti-hunting adgenda. The term steel jawed leghold trap is a favorite of the anti's. There is no such device, it is a foothold trap and it is not cruel or inhumane. I hope that the Reps that sponsor this bill get voted out of office and then they can move to California with all the other bunnyhuggers!
  • 03-22-2007 7:57 AM In reply to

    Ignorant

Some of my best memories as a kid was to walk trap lines with a cousin. These legisators who intoduce bills that take away otudoor opportunities in stead of trying to increase them should be recalled or voted out. No "I am sorry" because they will try again later. These idiots need to work on finding ways to put away crimininals. He will probably vote for big tax increases also in order to tax our state into prosperity. Tim Lintz
  • 03-22-2007 7:59 AM In reply to

    Thanks

These legislators that do this type of thing ar absolute morons. Probaby never spent any time afield or real time in the woods.
  • 03-22-2007 9:37 AM In reply to

    Lack Thereof

Yet another attempt to erode the rights of sportsman one small step at a time. This bill lacks reason and common sense. Please vote this joker out of office.
  • 03-22-2007 10:10 AM In reply to

    Cruel and Inhumane

"not cruel or inhumane"? Tell that to our dog who screamed in misery when caught in one of those traps a "hunter" set, unmarked, in a state park within 30 feet of picnic tables. Have you ever seen an animal that is trapped in one of these things? Not hours or days later when they are quiet and still from exhaustion and shock. But when it is first caught? Non target animals (including pets) are routinely trapped in these devices.
  • 03-22-2007 10:36 AM In reply to

    What's Next?

This is an attack on sportspeople. Please encourage people to contact their Reps. and let them no that we don't support this. Don't just sit back and watch, or we may eventually lose all of our hunting/fishing/trapping rights.
  • 03-22-2007 10:57 AM In reply to

    This guy's a republican!?

It seems it would be more humane for additional roadkill by "fatigued drivers - Wenke HB 4332". Wake up, Lorence.

    No to ban.

    retards

exactly they dont even know what goes on in the woods and such
  • 03-22-2007 11:39 AM In reply to

    What are you thinking?

The ban of leghold traps is not only absurd but it presents problems for the people of the State on many levels. Proposal G, I do believe mandates any change in game laws have to be backed by scientific data and proof to alter them. I am getting ready to help out some residents of a local community with a coyote problem. I was contacted by the DNR field office here to help. There is no allowing of hunting in this area, so the only other means is to trap these animals. Legholds and snares are the only way possible to get rid of these problem animals. Coyotes will not enter a live box trap. The residents of this neighborhood are desperate and have no money to pay someone to come in and do it professionally. Thus enter the trapper. These animals are killing livestock and have even been grabbing pets. Last Thursday night, a coyote climbed/jumped a woman's fence in her backyard and got on her porch chasing one of her three beloved rescued Yorkies. The coyote killed the dog and made off with it over the fence for a meal. Legislation such as this will not help the people of this state whatsoever. Bad bill guys.
  • 03-22-2007 11:52 AM In reply to

    Trespassers usually protest trapping

This is a common claim used against trapping. When the facts come out, the individual was trespassing and the dog was not on a leash.
  • 03-22-2007 1:48 PM In reply to

    How many?

How many of these No, No, No, winers belong to the same "conservation" organization? You are all paranoid hunters that are always trying to get every voter to believe that non-hunters are trying to get all hunting stopped. Stop crying! No one is doing any such thing and YOU KNOW IT!!! So bag the dramatics! Leghold traps are a cruel way of stopping and killing ANY animal, and they SHOULD BE OUTLAWED. If you winers don't think they are cruel, then tie your hands behind your back and snap your leg in a trap to get an idea of the real pain - then try to free yourself by using just your teeth and your other bare foot (no fair wearing shoes, the animals don't). Don't call your momma for help either! People who live in country or wilderness type settings should develop enough brains NOT to leave their pets out at ANY TIME UNATTENDED by a responsible human. Leghold traps are CRUEL and EXTREMELY INHUMANE and UNNECESSARY!!!!!
  • 03-22-2007 1:56 PM In reply to

    In you opinion.

Are you a trapper. What kind of experience do you have with leghold traps? No need to rant. Just facts.
  • 03-22-2007 2:06 PM In reply to

    Talk about inhumane...

Animals are not human. Partial birth abortion is inhumane. Which would Governor Granholm gladly sign into law?
  • 03-22-2007 4:56 PM In reply to

    Lew Kyes

Michigan reps are going down hill if they vote this in. Shame on you Michigan if it passes!
  • 03-22-2007 5:03 PM In reply to

    What are you thinking???

There are two ways to solve the coyote problem referred to above. One is to kill all of the coyotes that remain in the wild. The other is to not leave your pet vulnerable to an attack by a coyote.
  • 03-22-2007 7:33 PM In reply to

    Please watch

Here is a video called "Destroying the Myth" that explains the mechanics of the traps and uses of the traps. Please, everyone watch. http://www.nationaltrappers.com/video/DestoryingtheMyth.wmv

    My tax dollars wasted again!

Maybe we need to tax legislators with a special tax to pay for this moronic legislation. There is no reason to ban traps and/or trapping. It is a useful and cost effective adjunct to game management. Trapping is a way to help pay for the anticipated increase in taxation the citizens of this state are facing. If the legislators had to pay for the privilege of entering bills, it might just keep nonsense like this poor excuse of a bill from taking up legislators time and tax-payers money.
  • 03-22-2007 11:02 PM In reply to

To be humane or not to be humane, that is the question.

S: (adj) humane (marked or motivated by concern with the alleviation of suffering) S: (adj) humane (showing evidence of moral and intellectual advancement)
  • 03-23-2007 11:09 PM In reply to

    I applaud this bill

Thank you for this bill. There is NO excuse for inhumane treatment of animals. I am not opposed to responsible hunting and trapping but these traps are cruel and unacceptable.
  • 03-23-2007 11:14 PM In reply to

    Ban cruel trapping methods

Leghold traps for animals are cruel and unnecessary. Let's trap pudgy white men this season.
  • 03-24-2007 5:20 AM In reply to

    Here we go again.

Why does it not suprise me to see this? Well its time to fire up the Citizens for Wildlife Conservation group again. Maybe this time the sportspeople of Michigan will support them in defeating this bill. Better yet, lets just let this one die a quick death.
  • 03-24-2007 11:25 AM In reply to

    This bill is nothing

This bill is NOT going anywhere. It was not fueled by PETA or HSUS, got support under false pretenses, and will die in committee. It will not even make it to the floor for a vote. Any serious anti-hunting attack will come not from legislation but from another ballot proposal. Keep your powder dry and be ready for that.
  • 03-24-2007 2:47 PM In reply to

It should pass. It is unnecessary suffering. We don't hunt to survive.

Go buy a WHOPPER and get over it. Hunting is mainly for entertainment in Michigan. We are not prehistoric cave people for goodness sake. Let's be civilized here. Our economy is not so bad that we are out hunting and gathering for our very existence.

It's 2007, for goodness sake. And haven't you people watched Brother Bear? Bambi?

  • 03-24-2007 3:05 PM In reply to

    brother bear, and bambi

are CARTOONS. if you get your facts from the animators at disney, you probably believe in the little fairy that waves her wand and makes the castle appear.
  • 03-24-2007 3:09 PM In reply to

Get out of town? You mean they are not REAL? Burger King is, though.

Go buy a Whopper 'cause I don't remember there being an overpopulation of deer and such, and other weapons will work just fine. Nobody is starving. Stop at Starbucks for a latte and cookie.
  • 03-24-2007 3:12 PM In reply to

    cruel and unnecessary

those same words came out of a liberals mouth in trying to ban guns in boston. leg hold traps have been used for over 150 years. the legislators up until now have found NO PROBLEM with them for all this time. what is the DRIVING FORCE behind this legislation? is it because of backing from the animal killers at P.E.T.A.? these people howling for less cruelty "rescued" thousands of animals from shelters, where their chances of being adopted were better than normal, and KILLED THEM ALL, dumping them into various dumpsters. they were photographed while doing it. THIS from people who PROFESSED TO WANT TO SAVE ANIMALS. if my legislator wants my vote tomarrow, he'd better not be taking money from P.E.T.A. or any company affiliated with P.E.T.A. today.
  • 03-24-2007 3:14 PM In reply to

Holy cow, Wenke is not a tool of PETA, he's just a good guy

Caring and compassionate as our the people of his area. It's common sense. In 2007 we need to upgrade a bit. It's not necessary to survive. The suffering is not needed. Put the club down, Caveman.
