2007 House Bill 4482 (Revise certain welfare requirements )

Introduced in the House on March 20, 2007, to revise certain provisions of the welfare reform law to specify that after the Department of Human Services has made an initial determination that an applicant might be eligible for welfare and is not exempt from "work first" participation, that individual would be required to participate in assigned work-related activities. Welfare cases would not have to opened before a potential recipient attends an orientation session and begins participation in work-related activities. The bill would eliminate a provision requiring the Department of Human Services to provide the orientation sessions on a weekly basis

The vote was 107 in favor, 0 opposed and 3 not voting

(House Roll Call 67 at House Journal 30)

All individuals need a high school diploma

In today's society, all individuals need a high school diploma. After high school, if the individual needs a job training program, then they need to be held accountable by showing up and finishing the program they are enrolled in. By not having weekly meetings, how else are they being held responisible for finishing their training and becoming independant and productive members of society? Helping to avoid big problems in the future will help keep the process moving forward and having a successful out come with this state financially helping these individuals.
