    Representatives for sale...

Gee, I wonder why businesses are leaving Michigan? It appears Mr. Miller was purchased for about $30,000 in union contributions over the last couple of years. It is so easy to see what motivates these guys. Just follow the money.

    only fair

This bill would insure the state contract companies who respect the workers right to organize, making it much more likely we get quality work, at a fair price.

    good work rep

Unions are not the reason Employers are chosing not to come to Michigan. It is simply cheaper to go to a state or country where greedy employers can grow on the misfortune of others. Unions have done more for Michigan in terms of building our middle class, and protecting jobs and wages. Blaming unions for corporate greed is easy but not accurate. If more states would pass similar legislation, employers would have no choice but to pay workers a living wage, and provide safe working conditions. What many people seem to want to ignore is that consumers are employees. when wages are kept low the employees/ consumers can not afford to purchase. It is to the benefit of employers in Michigan to pay their workers a living wage so that they can continue to be consumers of the product or services that they offer. Congratulations to workers all over MIchigan that want to make the choice to unionize with out interference, or intimidation from their employers.

Perhaps you should study economics a bit.

What you call "corporate greed" is actually the profit motive and it is a good thing not a bad thing. Profit, not unions, is responsible for the creation of the middle class. Corporations naturally want to pay least amount they can for all goods and services in order to more efficiently provide their product to their customers thus, sell more and EARN more profit for their owners (often middle class stockholders). Your contention that the "corporations" are the bad guys and the "unions" are the good guys points the very flaw in unionism. Rather than working together to become more efficient and EARN more profit which can be used to grow and hire more workers, unions work against the employers like parasites feed off the host, just keeping it alive enough to get fat. The healthiest companies with the happiest employees are non-union. If this is not true why are all you pro-union types so afraid of a right to work law that allows all employees to CHOOSE whether to join the union or not. Any time free choice is prevented by force, evil is at work.

    What a joke.

Yeah, quality and fair prices, that's what it's all about. I got so tired of listening guys I know in the UAW talk about screwing off on the job, including drinking, sleeping, getting paid not to work, etc., that I bought a Toyota. Why should I work my ass off to support that kind of work ethic? What this is really about is big labor collecting union dues and becoming big business themselves. We all get to pay for it in Michigan.

    if unions are so great

why is it that the state is in such a mess? don't the unions CREATE JOBS? or do they just CONTROL JOBS? don't the unions provide opportunities? or do they LIMIT OPPORTUNITIES TO THOSE WHO PAY THEM UNION DUES? how much have you paid in union dues in your lifetime? will you ever see all that money? how much richer could you be if you had all that money? how many other 'do nothing slugs' have you financed in your lifetime? how many other people's bills have you paid? how many other guy's beers have you bought?

    by the way...

why did four thousand licensed UNION carpenters leave michigan to go to louisiana? they left for WORSE PAY??? pay by the job, or by the hour, your choice. you set the scale. no union dues. they left for WORSE CONDITIONS??? yes, it's hot in the summer, but there is a 12 month working season. that means that for the last two years, your workers have been basking in the louisiana sun MAKING MONEY, instead of being out of a union job up here. they don't seem to be missing anything that "ONLY THE UNION CAN PROVIDE". and they are enjoying Mardi Gras for a month every february. let's see. good weather, no union dues, the best parties on the planet, if i had the money, i'd be there too, and so would you.

michigan constitution,  article 1. Sec. 6.

Every person has a right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the state.

    Unconstitutional

It will be thrown out as an infringment on free speech. Companies and their owners must be allowed to speak on behalf of their own interests. What irritates me is that we pay a full time wage to idiots to introduce legislation that they know or should know will never make it or get thrown out.

    why should the state

make a law that prohibits people from unionizing? it's none of the government's business whether a place is unionized or not. why doesn't the government TAX THE UNIONS FOR ALL THE INCOME THAT THEY GENERATE THROUGH UNION DUES? it would probably get us out of the hole that our failed governor has gotten us into.
  • 10-12-2007 8:38 AM In reply to

    Except For The Fact That

" none of the government's business whether a place is unionized or not." They can buy votes from other unions with horse squeeze like this bill.
  • 10-12-2007 3:38 PM In reply to

    those votes are

bought and paid for. there is not one union that votes republican. and the unions are paying for it.
  • 10-12-2007 5:14 PM In reply to

    why must the unions

put millions of dollars into the democrat coffers? why must the unions put millions of dollars that were put towards UNION BENEFITS into democrat coffers? if the unions would have spent the money on their members, instead of electing a democrat, more people would be members. if the unions would have spent the money on their members, instead of using it to kill jimmy hoffa, more people would be members. if the unions wouldn't have spent three BILLION dollars so far to elect shrillary, more people would be members.
  • 10-12-2007 6:17 PM In reply to

    hey, union slug...

how do you explain the use of union dues to elect candidates that the members have no choice but to support? did you ask your members which candidate THEY wish to donate BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO? of course not. the union slugs couldn't POSSIBLY figure that out for themselves.
  • 10-13-2007 12:47 PM In reply to

    if the unions are such

a good thing, how come it's members are FORCED TO JOIN?
  • 10-31-2007 6:34 PM In reply to

    what are you crying about

Take a good look at personal service contracts employees. They have no rights whatsover they can not even file a grievance, look it up.They have worked full time for years just like you civil service people who have a union and at least have the backing when its needed. there are no benefits either. Why dont these so called legislatures look at that. I'm not just talking about independent contractors these are called personal service contracts its a joke
